John Paton is the Chairman and Managing Partner of IVA Ventures.
IVA focuses on investments and advisory in Blockchain-based ventures as well as seed, early and growth stage digital media companies. It is based in New York and San Francisco and London.
John has been CEO of media companies in four countries ranging from less than $20 million in annual revenues to more than $1.2 billion and from 100 employees to 10,000 employees.
He is the founder and former CEO of Digital First Media, the No. 2 newspaper company in the U.S, and co-founder and former CEO of impreMedia, the largest Hispanic news-and-information company in the country. He is a director of The Guardian in the UK; El Pais, and PRISA in Spain with divisions in 22 countries and is Executive Chairman of London-based BOAT International which serves the global superyacht industry.
He is an advisor to a number of Blockchain start-ups including TMT Crypto Fund, Hubii Network, Moonlighting and video marketplace The Mobs.
He has more than $7 billion in transactions and financings (involving both public and private companies) under his belt.
In 2009, he was awarded Publisher of the Year by Editor & Publisher and has been named a finalist for Entrepreneur of the Year by Ernst & Young in New York City. A graduate of Ryerson University’s journalism program, where he has been named an Alumni of Distinction, and Harvard University Graduate School of Business Administration’s Finance for Senior Executives program.
He is an experienced director on the boards of both public and private companies in the US, UK, Europe and Canada.
